The start of the New Year has seen the lockdown re-introduced across England with existing restrictions being tightened in other parts of the United Kingdom.
As such, members are currently operating remotely and we would recommend a number of simple steps to try to help ensure the continued wellbeing of your clients and yourself.
This includes remembering the importance of solution focused thinking. In other words, focus on those all-important positives (no matter how small they may be).
Taking a step back and reflecting on our own achievements is important if we are to ‘walk the walk’ ourselves and provide a stable and grounded approach for our clients.
Allowing for a ‘solution focused hypnotherapy’ approach to all aspects of our wellbeing is going to be very useful when we’re ‘transmitting’ positive mirror neurons to those we work with.
And so, if you’re not already doing so then, perhaps, settling into regular routines, which could include emptying our own ‘stress buckets’ and a spot of exercise, are all upbeat actions that may prove invaluable during lockdown.
There are, of course, simple practical steps we should all be taking to help with the smooth running of appointments.
These may include keeping antiviral software updated and ensuring we’re using a safe, well respected virtual platform for meetings. The same measures apply to the storage of written records.
Checking the client’s phone is on the hook is something we’ve mentioned before, but it’s certainly worthwhile to have on your checklist at the start of a remote appointment!
It’s also a good time to think about ways of delivering your message and how your practice can help others.
With vaccinations starting across the UK, it may be worthwhile providing a reminder for how you can assist people deal with some of the doubts they may feel when faced with a needle.
Perhaps you have a social media profile? It could be a timely moment to think about producing blog posts to promote positive thinking. These can vary in length, from 350 words to 1500 (and anything in between).
And, don’t forget the importance of supervision. Having a chat with your supervisor isn’t just good for your clients, it can also be highly beneficial for your practice and also for your own mental wellbeing.
We wish you a safe and positive start to 2021 and every success as we continue to move forwards during the course of the year.
