As the nights begin to really draw in then it can become quite common for people to experience SAD (Seasonally Affective Disorder) at this time of the year. With shorter days now upon us, we tend to receive less sunlight and that can mean less Vitamin D.
Vitamin D is important as it really helps in the production of serotonin which, as we know, is a vital component for the functioning wellbeing of the intellectual part of the brain.
Its’ role, of course, is to steer a steady course away from the negative reactions caused by amygdala, hippocampus and hypothalamus.
As with all of our hypnotherapy sessions, keeping focused on those all-important positive achievements, and a client’s small steps towards bigger goals, can be crucial components for helping to produce serotonin and help reduce the impact of SAD.
This year has been a huge challenge for many people and providing those all-important reminders about the value of successfully completing small goals, and recognising the achievements of small targets, can make a real difference.
And let us not forget that coping is, on its’ own merit, a key positive. It actually doesn’t matter how small the accomplishment is. The point is something good has been achieved.
And we can extend the same positive messages to ourselves by providing a bit of reflective TLC on our own accomplishments and practice.
Doing so can really help us exude that calm positive reassurance, which is crucial, not just for others, but also for our own mental health.
As we head towards the end of 2020, it’s also important to keep an eye on the news and any updates regarding restrictions, lockdowns and Covid-19.
Officials continue to provide regular updates, advice and information on the outbreak via the gov.uk website: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
Obviously, it goes without saying that practitioners should continue to adhere to all directions provided by the government.
Talking with your practice manager, insurer and supervisor may also help provide guidance in how you can continue to safely support clients during this difficult time.
As we’ve mentioned previously, when it comes down to providing remote support then it can be worthwhile in checking your client’s phone is working before a session begins as it can be useful to have the ability to phone them, if you need to do so, at the end of the trance section of the session.
Good housekeeping can also extend to ensuring all your security software is up to date and, of course, that your background is looking clean, tidy and professional before you begin the session itself.
