We hope you’re all enjoying the glorious weather. It certainly provides an opportunity to top up on that all important Vitamin D which, as we know, helps to generate a key ingredient for happiness: serotonin.
As practitioners, we also understand the need to remember to practice the three Ps as crucial generators for this natural wonder drug: positive thinking, positive action and positive interaction.
It goes without saying that, for many people, the past few months have been an incredibly difficult time. As such, it’s worthwhile remembering how we can use the three Ps not only to help our clients – but also ourselves.
Positive interaction allows the creation of rapport and ‘mirror neurons’ which’ll help us feel more upbeat. Supervision, either in a group, or, on a one to one basis, can really provide an uplifting feeling for everyone.
Supervision is important at the current time as it allows us to ‘check in’ with ourselves so ensuring our own stress buckets are manageable. It also provides a chance to talk through how to help clients whose own anxiety levels might be higher than normal.
Positive action can be taken in a variety of different areas. As we mentioned in the last newsletter, we recommend you speak with your insurers before making a decision on re-opening your business for face to face meetings.
You may also want to look at ways to try to ensure safety in the workplace. HSE has provided guidance on its website: https://www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/working-safely/index.htm
Likewise, you may wish to read all the latest updates relating to the government’s official advice on Covid 19: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
Positive action also provides us with the chance to spruce up websites with the aim of explaining how Modern Psychotherapy can really make a difference for perspective clients. After all, people might be seeking help for tackling increased anxieties which might be related to the lockdown or recent news events.
Positive thinking plays a vital role in our own wellbeing. We can really only provide effective help for others if we are feeling good ourselves. As such, let’s remember achievements in our business and at home.
