Harnessing the power of thought.

Harnessing the power of thought can be a game changer for anyone looking to transform their lives and embrace new positive habits.

One of the crucial components of achieving those goals is the ability to visualise them and the associated feelings of success.

It’s a powerful technique and one which reflects a key benefit of hypnotherapy as we only utilise the power of thought to help someone.

We’ve all read stories about how the mind can be an incredible asset for development – hence the phrase ‘putting our minds to it.’

Our work with a client can really help them to ‘rehearse’ scenarios to ensure they can reach the best outcome. Top athletes are increasingly turning to qualified (and experienced) therapists to help their game.

The power of visualisation is a personal thing for each of our clients. When we go into a trance state we run through an upcoming event – as though it was real. The result? The brain responds as if it is real. This gives us a big advantage in achieving goals.

At this point, it’s important to remember a focus on positive outcomes. Afterall, we don’t want the brain to rehearse a failed result.

Instead, focusing on positive achievements helps us to utilise the pre frontal cortex. With the intellectual part of the brain fully engaged then we can easily visualise success.

As such, when we carry out the visualisation in real life then it’s the second time we’ve done it and so it’s not new. And that’s the power of trance.

Planning to run a local half marathon this summer? It might be worthwhile looking at pictures of the finish line in previous events so to make your visualisation of the event that much stronger.

It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t train for this type of event! Of course we should! Getting out there and making sure our fitness levels are good so we can complete a race in a safe fashion is important. Equally, we should also be training our brain to help us.

It’s the key benefit of being a NBH member as we can use the best of science, and our understanding of it, to apply techniques which fit the science.

Applied usage of training

The applied usage of training can be utilised in so many aspects of our own lives: from reducing our own stress levels to improving our performance.

As such, it’s perhaps not surprising to find hypnotherapy is fast becoming the number one place for people to turn to: especially for anxiety.

Years ago it was smoking and weight management which garnered the most number of enquiries – but anxiety now counts for the top spot for emails and phone calls about our services.

Measuring our outcomes is crucial in helping clients as it allows them to visualise the success of the treatment before they even pick up the phone to make the appointment.

Success is measurable and that’s perhaps why CORP is currently the biggest (and most successful) research programme of its kind in the history of hypnotherapy.

It is a unique national survey which is designed to track the progress of clients during the course of their therapy. To date, it has 80,000 hours of research hours logged in its system.

By scientifically measuring and recording outcomes from each session then we can supply data to a perspective client which will help them estimate a timeframe for success.

CORP allows us to focus on seven key areas of wellness: thoughts, interaction, activity, confidence, strengths, achievements and happiness.

There are more than 700 practitioners currently using the system. The big upside for the client is they get to see their journey and their progress.

Clients might be managing feelings and emotions but when they see a physical graph of how well they’re doing then that’s a good morale boost for anyone!

NBH membership standards are high as practitioners can only join if they reach the national accepted standard of 450 hours of practice (and above).

It provides confidence for anyone looking to engage with the expertise of our members and it allows them to do so with the confidence that there is an assurance of quality.

Putting the logo on your website and publicity materials is important as it means a perspective client will see they will be working with someone who is well qualified (and good) at what they do.
